The whole idea of the NRR metric is to shine a light on "growth from the base" (as opposed to growth from new customers). But all the gymnastics around these calculations means that a lot of the time we don't get that. That said, it's good that there is disclosure at all on this. Some of the largest SaaS companies like Salesforce simply don't give us anything on retention.
My wish — beyond having NRR definitions be more consistent — would be to have more companies report the companion GRR metric (gross revenue retention) which, when done right, reveals how much churn and downsells these companies endure in a year on a dollar basis. It's a much more pure measure that only a veryfew public companies consistently report.
